Sulumani Chimbetu appointed ZPCS Brand Ambassador

POPULAR musician and son of the late Dendera music icon  Sulumani Chimbetu who now leads the Orchestra Dendera Kings has been officially unveiled as the Brand Ambassador of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS).

Speaking at a colourful ceremony that was held at Harare Central Prison Senior Officer’s Mess, Commissioner General (CG) of the ZPCS, Retired Major Paradzayi Willings Zimondi said: “We approached “Sulu” in 2014 with the view to having him as the ZPCS Brand Ambassador. He acknowledged and pledged to work towards the rehabilitation of offenders through various means and through the years we have worked with him in a number of activities”.

“Thank you once again Sulu for committing yourself, committing your time, and over and above everything, your valued brand in raising visibility, awareness, selling and telling the ZPCS’s story,” he added.

In his acceptance speech, Chimbetu thanked C.G Zimondi for the recognition and also applauded the ZPCS for opening up to the community and allowing various stakeholders to take part in the organisation’s activities.

“I would like to thank you for this recognition sir and I am sure that my father is proud of this achievement and is smiling wherever he is,” he said.

“My father is one of those who passed through ‘college’ and although I was still too young to understand what was happening at the time, I can confidently say the organisation has indeed transformed.

“It is refreshing to note that the ZPCS has adopted the family week concept whereby inmates mix and mingle with their loved ones for a whole week thereby maintaining the family unit and making reintegration easier,” he added.

He said that he and his band are heavily involved in rehabilitation activities with inmates saying the conferment of brand ambassador status was a stamp of approval that would embolden him to speak with authority when he approaches potential partners for various projects.

He challenged members of the Orchestra Dendera Kings to be exemplary in whatever they do as they now carry the good name of ZPCS with them hence the need for them to be good role models.

The event was also used as a launch pad for the Commissioner General Goodwill Trust Fund’s Fundraising inaugural Horse Race that is scheduled to be held on the 3rd of November at the Borrowdale Race Course in Harare.
