ZPCS strives for excellence

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) will continue to upgrade and align its skills to meet regional and international standards through training, a senior official has said.

Speaking during a graduation ceremony of 31 students who completed a six-month management, leadership and development course in correctional services at Chikurubi Training School yesterday, ZPCS Commissioner-General Retired Major- General Paradzai Zimondi said they had achieved international standards on prisons and correctional services.

THE  Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Commissioner General’s Sports Gala gets underway at Ntabazinduna Training School today with six administrative regions taking part in eight sporting disciplines.

Being held under the theme “Correctional Development Through Sports”, the gala will be officially opened by Commissioner Wonder Chisora and officially closed on Saturday by Commissioner-General Paradzai Zimondi, a keen golfer.

This year’s gala, according to principal correctional officer Garainashe Moyo, will have Ntabazinduna Training Depot standing as a region in addition to Matabeleland, Mashonaland, Manicaland, Midlands/Masvingo and National Headquarters.

The officers will compete in soccer, netball, darts, chess, pool, volleyball, tennis, tug of war and golf.“The gala provides a platform for us to select a team that will represent Zimbabwe at the Sadc Games later this year,” said Moyo.

This year’s games are also set to be used to select teams to represent the prisons and correctional services at the Zimbabwe National Youth Games that get underway in Hwange in two weeks’ time.

The Commissioner General Sports Gala started in 2002 and each region has had the opportunity to host the event.

Commissioner General’s Goodwill Golf Tournament

All roads lead to Masvingo Golf Club this Saturday where the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Masvingo province has organised a golf tournament in support of the Commissioner General’s Good Will Trust Fund.
The tournament will be graced by ZPCS Commissioner General Rtd Mjr Gen Paradzai W. Zimondi who will be a player as well as the Guest of Honour, and ZPCS Deputy Commissioner General MCN Chihobvu who will also be a player.
In an interview, ZPCS Masvingo Provincial Commander Acting Ass Com Social Ndanga said they were pleased with the response of stakeholders.

“We are happy with the support given to our efforts to contribute to the Commissioner General Good Will Trust Fund as part of our collective social responsibility programme. We would like to thank all staking keholders who are supporting us; corporate partners, churches, individuals and members of ZPCS who are all contributing in one way or the other,” said Acting Ass Com Ndanga.

Organisations that are supporting the event include Bikita Minerals, Nyaradzo, Regency Hotels, EMRAS, FBC Bank, FMC and Doves.
The trust fund dates back to 2011 when realisations were made regarding the gaps in the charitable needs of vulnerable groups. The fund has so far paid school fees for around 345 orphans and has assisted 110 widows with agricultural inputs.In addition, child-headed families are being given food hampers courtesy of the fund while the Albino Association has also received donations in the form of sunscreen lotions.

ZPCS Masvingo golf club captain Assistant Principal Correctional Officer (APCO) Tapiwa Madhara encouraged members of the public to come and enjoy the activities of the day.”It will not be all about golf, there are many activities lined up for everybody including a performance by the ZPCS brass band. Everybody is welcome to enjoy themselves.
The call was echoed by ZPCS Masvingo Public relations/Marketing Officer, Correctional Officer Grade 1 (CO1) Nevson Tagarira.
“The band will be belting out sweet melodies. We encourage people to some in their numbers and enjoy our hospitality while supporting the Commissioner Good Will Trust Fund,” said CO1 Tagarira.sport

ZPCS urges the public to be aware of criminals

THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services has urged the public to be aware of criminals who are going around soliciting for donations using the institutions name.

Following the message which has been circulating on social media stating that the Chikurubi Prison has been asking for donations in form of  an attached list of basic commodities.

The Chief Correctional Officer, Simon Kaondo said “any form of communication we wish to make to the public is carried out through public department or commissioner general hence people should be-careful of those who scheme in order to obtain commodities from them in the name of the institution.”

Kaondo dismissed the circulating message as a scheme.

Botswana SADC games

The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Sports Committee held the Sadc Games Selection in Ntabazinduna with the body’s five administrative regions competing in six sporting disciplines.

The chairperson of the Sports Committee Assistant Commissioner, Rosemary Kamonge said the games will culminate in the selection of 100 athletes that will represent the country at the Sadc Prisons, Penitentiary, Correctional Services Sports and Cultural Exchange games slated for Botswana in August.
